There are a lot of these types of video challenges out there these days. Take 5 days, take a weekend, take any stretch of 48 hours, make a film and enter it into a competition by the deadline. Sometimes you come up with a gem, sometime the filming is a bust, but as a past participant of challenges like these, the thrill comes in trying to get a finished product out the door within a very compressed timeline.
For those who are procrastinators, myself included, ALL contests end up being five day or two day challenges, no matter how long you may have had to get a submission into the contest. And frankly, I like it that way. Nothing is more exciting than racing toward the deadline, hoping the render you started two hours ago doesn’t error out and that you can upload it to the contest in time. When you make it, just in the nick, the adrenalin rush is spectacular. Then you crack open the beverage of your choice and toast the team members that helped get you there.
Your film could be terrific! Your film could be terrible! But the coolest part? You made something. You created a piece of art that didn’t exist in the world a few days ago, and that is something to be proud of.
The allrecipes: Firehouse Cooks contest ends this Tuesday, September 18th at 4pm PST. You can do it, filmmakers!
