Tell us about yourself, personally and creatively.
Most of my life was dedicated to playing professional baseball. I played at UCLA and unfortunately my career ended due to an injury. After that I became free to pursue other interests for the first time in my life. I am fortunate to be surrounded by a very special group of friends whom I have known since I was five years-olds, and many ideas come directly from my experiences with them. One of my best friends, David Grunfeld, helps me produce most, if not all of the videos I do.
What first interested you in film?
Two things really interested me when starting out. 1) The collaboration process, most people don’t realize how much goes into making a movie or a TV show. SO MANY people are involved, it is simply staggering. 2) I love stories, the characters, and the adventure & yes the happy ending!
What drew you to the Zooppa community?
Zooppa, which allows creatives to showcase their work, is an excellent opportunity for me and the people I collaborate with to do great work and potentially have it shared with the world. As a creative person you really can’t ask for much more.
What do you like most about crowdsourced film contests?
I like the competitive component. It isn’t always about what the brand is looking for; for me, it is trying to standout and to out think the competition. An editor & friend of mine named Kevin “THE MAN” Sneveley remarked, “That idea was just okay, but why not really take it to the next level? I bet if you just run with it you’ll be successful.” So I did and haven’t looked back.
What do you like to do when you’re not creating video masterpieces?
I am currently developing an IOS & Android Application for young professionals interested in meeting others in their field of choice to help further their relationships within their industry. I also play softball which I love doing because it’s all the fun of baseball with none of the pressure. Lastly, I coach a club little league team for 12-year-olds on Sundays, they’re a great group!
Where is home for you?
I grew up in the heart of Los Angeles. I live at home with my folks and two awesome dogs Toby and Stella.
Where do/did you go to school? How has your education influenced your filmmaking?
I went to UCLA where I studied History. History is the story of our past and one I hope to use one day in future ventures. Most of my favorite movies and shows are period pieces with a sense of realism. I read a lot of historical fiction. My favorite author Bernard Cornwell is having his book, THE LAST KINGDOM made into a TV series. I am super excited to see it!
What/where do you find inspiration for your films? Share a bit about your creative process.
I am inspired by real life. I like to observe and listen. Listening is something I focus on because I am not the only one with an idea. I generally pitch all of my ideas to my friends. They all have very different tastes so reworking an idea so they all like it is the sweet spot.
Which was your favorite Zooppa contest to participate in? Why?
I have now participated in two Zooppa contests. I really liked working on both projects… I can’t pick a favorite!
What are you currently working on (job, films)?
I work full time at a management and production company here in Los Angeles. I am the assistant to the president of the U.S Offices, and I like my job very much. I am now gearing up for the Doritos Crash, “The Super Bowl “Contest, to which I will be submitting two spots. I am super excited; it will be a lot of fun!
What are you hoping to achieve in the future?
It is my goal to produce scripted hour long drama for premium cable channels like HBO, STARZ, and SHOWTIME etc… I will also be continuing to create continent wherever possible.
