1. Tell us about yourselves, personally and creatively.
Hello, we are Chris Hailes and Horia Dragoi, a filmmaking duo currently based in London where we are studying Film Production at university. Together, we have started a freelance company under the name “Vesio”; we met in summer 2013 at a filming course hosted by the Tyneside Cinema in the north east of England. Since then we have worked together on multiple projects to develop our style and skill set.

Horia Dragoi
Hi! From a young age I became interested in how films are made. I started with a basic camera and have since gone on to work on a wide range of personal projects and freelance work for clients. My career goal is to become a cinematographer, but I also love creating visual effects for films as it allows for me to create larger worlds for better storytelling.

Chris Hailes
Hello, I have spent my life working towards my career goal of becoming a filmmaker, working on a wide range of projects and competitions in multiple roles. I love taking from start to finish and pushing myself to create inspiring content with a focus on professionalism.

What first interested you in film?
From a young age we were both intrigued by films and desired to learn the process of making them. Chris started with an interest in animation, creating stop motion films in his youth. Horia’s interest originated from photography and computer animation, which then grew into a love of cinematography and VFX.

What drew you to the Zooppa community?
The opportunity to work for global companies and to create new and exciting advertisements; it allows us to experiment and develop as film makers and whilst building our portfolios.

What do you like most about crowdsourced film contests?
The environment is creatively stimulating. It encourages filmmakers to explore new styles and to push their boundaries with the opportunity to have their work shown globally.

What do you like to do when you’re not creating video masterpieces?
We are both visually creative and have hobbies that are centered around graphic design. In his spare time, Horia enjoys learning how to create Visual Effects and 3D animations; he also loves making DIY electronic projects. Where as Chris’s interests lie in writing, developing stories and characters, he has always loved cinema and the industry. We love traveling and creating, always thinking about our next project.

Where is home for you?
We are currently living in London. We were both raised in the North East of England, but wherever we find ourselves we quickly settle in and make it home.

Where do/did you go to school? How has your education influenced your filmmaking?
We studied in different schools, both giving opportunities that have helped us on our way to becoming filmmakers. Chris’s sixth form hosted competitions where as Horia’s gave him the opportunity to create promotional content, both being screen around the UK and internationally.

What/where do you find inspiration for your films? Share a bit about your creative process.
Our inspiration comes from our surroundings, we try to experience as many different environments and cultures as possible. A lot of our creativity comes from each other, we work closely in the development process to push each other and therefore become better filmmakers.

Which was your favorite Zooppa contest to participate in? Why?
The Air Hogs competition has been the only contest we have currently participated in. However we are very excited to entering many more over the coming years.

What are you currently working on (job, films)?
We are currently studying film at University whilst building and promoting our freelance team, Vesio. On top of this we are working on our crowd funded independent short film, APR, which was shot over the summer, it is currently in postproduction.

What are you hoping to achieve in the future?
We would like to grow our team and skill sets, with the long-term goal of creating feature films and working with an increasing diversity of clients.
Link us to any work/a portfolio that you would like mentioned.
