Dreamforce 2017: What You Need to Know

 This year, Dreamforce took San Francisco by storm. Museums were rented out to contain attendee overflow, some bars turned away non-conference patrons and Michelle Obama made an appearance to chat with CEO Mark Benioff. Looking for the most exciting takeaways from Dreamforce 2017? We’ve got you covered.

AI In Everything

AI was one of the biggest themes for Dreamforce this year, with over 150,000 people converging to hear talks on integrating AI into everyday enterprise. Among these were announcements about Salesforce’s myEinstein, the tool meant to forecast sales, prospects and outcomes with three easy steps: “Point. Click. Predict.”

myEinstein is built around a simple UI that uses “clicks, not code” to help non-developers succeed using the AI system. Among the most exciting AI sessions was the  “Future of AI Expert Panel,” hosted by Fortune’s Adam Lashinsky. will.i.am (of Black EyedPeas fame) dropped an  announcement of his startup, Omega for Enterprise.

Omega’s mission is built around molding AI to suit a business’s everyday needs. The company aims to “deliver natural and intuitive interactions by leveraging multiple data points… context” and reducing the “churn” associated with traditional AI systems.

Though still in its early stages, Omega has raised over $117 million in funding and will likely be a contender as the race for human-friendly chat bots evolves.

Celebrities Everywhere!

The stars came out for Dreamforce, with former First Lady Michelle Obama and Laura Bush Hager among the speakers at the conference—that’s not counting the star-studded performances by Alicia Keys and Lenny Kravitz. The concerts were arranged as a part of theDre benefit for California wine country, which has been devastated in a string of severe wildfires over the course of the year.

Due to popular demand, the festival was extended for an extra two days and featured additional artists like Metallica, G-Eazy and Dave Matthews Band. In all, Dreamforce was able to raise an additional $500,000 in charity funds for the wine country victims. Not bad at all!

Dreams Come True

Dreampitch is Saleseforce’s version of Shark Tank, with startup founders pitching their ideas to heavyweight judges like will.i.am, Shahrzad Rafati, and Chris Sacca.  All companies considered for Dreampitch must be built on the Salesforce platform, demonstrating just how versatile (and beautiful!) the tool can be. Of the threecompanies that pitched, Loop & Tie , an all in-one solution for corporate and private gifting, was selected to receive $250,000 in funding. Retrolux, a SaaS platform for the lightingindustry, and Meta Saas, a vendor management company were also among the contenders.

With conference winding down and San Francisco slowly returning to normal, it looks like Dreamforce has made its mark once again. For the past 15 years, Salesforce has been a hallmark of the area—from  1,070 foot towerto team meetings in spots around the city. And if this year’s event is indicator, it looks like that momentum isn’t slowing anytime soon.
