I’m sure we’ve all been in the position where we need to find that perfect piece of music to go with our latest films. Well, our newest winner profile, Kenny Fleetwood, is a musician and has been creating original music for the past 10 years! He is able to take his films, create original music and portray the exact feeling he is looking for! Kenny, known to the Zooppa community as Kenfleet, creator of the third place winner in the BookRenter #DreamBig video contest sat down with us and answered a few of our questions. Be sure to check out his winning video and his Facebook page for more information!
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I’m actually a musician by trade and have been writing original music for the past 10 years. I am actually the lead singer of a band called Farewell Fighter but lately most of my efforts have gone into film making. Interestingly enough it has enabled me to be more creative musically as my videos always receive an original score based upon the required feeling I want to convey.
And how about a little of your film making experience?
All of my film-making skills are learned. I’ve been an avid movie-goer and an appreciator of the art of film for as long as I can remember. When I started making videos of my own last summer it really came naturally. I like to think I have a bit of an original eye when it comes to the shots and edits needed to make my project come to life.
What’s your favorite project you’ve ever worked on?
I actually just entered into another contest on Zooppa.com which was the Chevron ‘AIDS Is Going To Lose” campaign. Writing this submission and shooting the scenes was very emotional. I definitely am very proud of my entry and confident that I’ll place in the prize field because I really took the time to make sure it was right. Every entry is seriously great though. I know the moderators are gonna have a hard time because it was such an awesome mission and a great cause.
As a contest winner, do you have any tips for other filmmakers trying to score their first win?
Be real in your films. Every second should mean something and every word or piece of music should coincide with the final feeling you wish to leave with your viewer. Nothing hits home quite as hard as an artist who truly puts everything out there in their work.
Take a look at Kenny’s original songwriting project called ‘Sentences.” It can be found at http://www.facebook.com/sentencesmusic. He uses this project to commission songs for individuals or projects others may need music for.
